Who We Are
OUR STORY
Fortüne Coffee
Fortüne Coffee is a woman-led coffee-processing company based in Liberia and Ghana. It was founded in 2024 to showcase Liberia and Ghana’s coffee heritage and bridge market gaps. In Liberia, where most coffee sold is imported despite local production, the company processes and makes available locally grown coffee. In Ghana, we offer diverse coffee varieties, such as Liberica and Arabica, to meet the demand for special flavours beyond the commonly available Robusta. Therefore, our unique strength and identity lie in our ability to meet the taste preferences of different coffee enthusiasts, elevating the coffee experience for our customers as we offer three coffee variants: Liberica, Arabica, and Robusta.
Our love for the environment and community empowerment drive the sourcing of our coffee beans from local farmers committed to sustainable farming techniques. This ensures that each cup you brew is delicious, sustainable, and ethically produced. Our coffees are carefully processed and packaged under strict hygienic conditions, retaining each variant’s natural freshness, quality, and unique flavour.
Leadership with a Purpose
DDr Fortune Agbele, the founder of Fortüne Coffee, is a freelance governance consultant focusing on elections, gender, conflict, peace, and security. She holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Bayreuth, a Master of Public Policy from the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin, Germany, with a focus on Democracies, the EU, and International Governance, and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and the Study of Religions from the University of Ghana. She has a wealth of experience in research and governance, having consulted for international development organisations.
In 2023, as one of the long-term international election observers for the 2023 Liberian General Elections, Fortune was deployed to Lofa County in northwestern Liberia. Travelling through the region, she made an intriguing discovery: seeing coffee trees scattered across the landscape, cultivated so naturally that they almost seemed to grow in the wild. Despite the widespread coffee trees across the county, Fortune noted the unavailability of locally processed coffee at the local supermarkets. Her research into coffee in Liberia revealed the country’s long history in coffee production, dating back to the 19th Century. Fortune decided to fill the market gap by processing Liberian coffee for domestic, regional, and international markets, giving birth to Fortüne Coffee. She then expanded the sourcing and production to Ghana by making Arabica and Liberica coffee available to complement Robusta coffee in Ghana.
However, Fortune’s passion for coffee started long before her discovery in Liberia and Fortüne Coffee was born. Growing up, she was captivated by the aroma of her grandmum’s coffee pot, which always brewed what she knew then as Ziavitutui—a flavour that felt like home. Later, as a PhD student, coffee became her trusted companion, with cappuccino fuelling countless hours of research and writing.
