Arabica coffee originated from Ethiopia and then moved to Yemen in the 14th century, where it was cultivated as a crop. Several varieties of Arabica coffee have been created since then. The World Coffee Research’s Catalogue, for instance, has listed 51 varieties of Arabica coffee. These include the Bourbon and Typical, which are the most culturally and genetically important C. arabica varieties in the world. The Bourbon is known for excellent quality in the cup at high altitudes. Arabica constitutes 57.4% of global coffee production in 2023. Compared with Robusta and Libeirca, Arabica coffee has medium to high acidity levels with a coffee content of low to medium, which is 1.1% to 2.2%.
